It is said that there is a strong link between health and beauty. The former improves a person’s physical and mental health, while the latter improves the quality of life. According to these criteria, there are only five kinds of beautiful skin: normal, dry, medium, oily and sensitive. Besides their classification, they also have certain features, depending on the kind of skin a person has. They include:

A person with normal skin is the type that most people have, which means that this layer of the body keeps everything in perfect balance. When a layer of the skin becomes too oily (that is, the epidermis) or too dry (that is, the dermis), it will affect the health of the skin. The skin will get flaky, rough and feel quite rough and chapped. If the damage caused to the skin is not removed in time, the outer layer will develop wrinkles. This can become a serious problem, as the formation of wrinkles under the skin can lead to more serious conditions. In such a case, it is advisable to consult a dermatologist who will help determine what can be done about the situation.

On the other hand, a person with dry skin has two kinds of layers: the dermis and the epidermis. When the dermis is too dry, it can become brittle, while when it is too oily, it can cause the epidermis layer to develop stretch marks, scars or ugly bumps. Such a condition, called dehydrated skin, needs immediate treatment to prevent further damage. At the same time, a person with oily skin does not need to worry: the body naturally produces an oil that keeps everything in balance, but it’s not enough if the dermis layer is also too oily. This result in the appearance of blackheads and pimples, caused by excess oil.

Apart from the outer layer, two more layers are needed for the skin to look good: the epidermis and the subcutaneous fat layer. The epidermis is the outermost layer of the skin, composed of dead cells and fresh tissue; it is where new skin cells to grow and repair themselves. When the skin is nourished properly, it looks firm, healthy and bright.

However, when it becomes imbalanced, it can look unhealthy and saggy-looking. The dermis is the second layer of the skin, composed of connective tissue, blood vessels and nerves. When the epidermis gets damaged, it can easily fall off; while the connective tissue between the two layers is important for the skin to stay smooth and supple. If it becomes too loose, it will sag and form wrinkles, while the blood vessels and nerves beneath it get damaged, making the skin look tired and pale.

These are the two main problems that can occur in normal skin. Irritated skin is one of the most common symptoms of these problems, especially if it happens on the face. Dryness can also be caused by genetics or the environment, while oily skin occurs only if there is an overproduction of oil by the glands. There are many causes of this condition, including hormonal imbalance, medications and chemicals, cosmetics, pregnancy, heavy cosmetics application, heavy bathing or showering, and some diseases. In case it’s dryness caused by the latter, a good moisturizer may help in restoring the natural moisture balance.
